Tigers eye playoff positioning

Bentonville coach Jody Grant has stressed to his team the importance of its next two games when it comes to postseason play and where the Tigers may begin the playoffs.

“We’ve talked to our kids on how important these next two games are,” Grant said. “When you get to this point of the season and you feel like you have a chance to be part of the playoffs, you want to jockey for great positioning.

“We’ve talked about it this week. We want to start fast and play good in all three phases of the game, and we’ve had good practices so far this week.”

Bentonville (6-2, 4-1), which still has a shot of at least a share of the 7A-West title, now heads to Rogers Heritage, which snapped its long losing streak and notched its first win against Bentonville West last week.

The War Eagles’ win has picked up the Tigers’ attention, Grant said.

“One thing I have noticed is they are getting better each week,” Grant said. “They’re buying in. Any time you have a new coach, it takes time and coach Travis and his staff have done a good job.

“This is a week that you have to be leery of a team that is hungry for more victories, and now they’re in a position to get a playoff berth with another win.”
