Bentonville High
Tigers attempt to bounce back

The advice Bentonville coach Jody Grant gave his football players this week was to forget about last week’s loss to Springdale Har-Ber and move on to this week’s opponent — Springdale High.

“What we talked about in our meeting Monday is we have to move on,” Grant said. “We can’t do a lot about Friday night, but we can move on and get better over the next four weeks and improve, despite who we are playing.

“Our kids have bought into that theory. They understand that we did some things that cost us in that game, and there are some areas where we still need to improve. I think they will understand and buy into that and move on.”

Grant was quick to credit Har-Ber’s physical defensive play into some of Bentonville’s wrongdoings, including a pair of turnovers. However, there were other mistakes the Tigers (4-2, 2-1) made that have to be addressed soon.

“You address those things in practice,” Grant said. “We’ve already been addressing how we need to protect the football and being smart when we throw the football.

“We need to make sure the kids understand the value of protecting the football, and they do. You have to show them how significantly those can hurt your team.”
