Bentonville 21, KC Rockhurst 17

Andrew Edwards' 40-yard touchdown pass to Chas Nimrod with 2 minutes, 14 seconds left in the third quarter put Bentonville ahead to stay as the Tigers knocked off Rockhurst in a back-and-forth affair in Kansas City.

Bentonville (2-0) led 14-1o at halftime, thanks to a 23-yard run by sophomore tailback Josh Ficklin with 40 seconds remaining. Rockhurst (1-2) regained the lead when Cashius Howell ran 20 yards for a score on a fourth-down play midway through the third quarter before the Tigers took the lead on Nimrod's second TD catch of the game.

Bentonville's defense made the lead stand on two occasions. Cole Joyce hit Howell in the backfield and held him on a fourth-and-2 play at the Tigers' 36, then Ethan Estes intercepted Luke Bailey's pass on the next-to-last play.

Andrews was 10-of-16 passing for 130 yards, and both of his touchdown passes went to Nimrod, whose catch gave Bentonville a 7-3 lead with 5:26 left in the first half. Rockhurst, however, used a flea-flicker to regain the lead less than a minute later as Bailey hit John Gyllenborg with a 76-yard touchdown pass.

Nimrod had five receptions for 81 yards, while Ficklin finished with 112 yards on 15 carries.

Bentonville returns to action Friday when the Tigers travel to Shawnee Mission, Kan., and take on defending Class 5A state champion Mill Valley
