Tigers must avoid letdown

One of the last things Bentonville needs right now, especially after such a big win after last week’s 24-21 victory over Fayetteville, is a letdown.

That’s what Tigers coach Jody Grant has stressed to his team this week as they prepared to take on Van Buren.

“Our kids’ focus has been there, and it need to continue being there,” Grant said. “We can’t ever overlook an opponent, and we definitely don’t want to look ahead.

“That’s the first thing we talked about Monday. It was fun to celebrate a win, and a big win on the road. But that game is over with, and we need to move on and continue to pick up more wins.”

Van Buren, despite its 1-3 record, can present some problems with its style of offense. The Pointers’ run-oriented attack out of a double slot formation means Bentonville’s defense will have stress discipline and assignments to its players.

“Van Buren, although not having its best year, has some guys that are good football players,” Grant said. “They do some good things out there with the offense they run.

“If you don’t prepare for it and understand your assignments, they’re going to move the football with some success.”
