Bentonville girls shut down Fayetteville 4-0

FAYETTEVILLE -- Bentonville High maintained its stranglehold atop the 7A-West Conference girls soccer standings Monday with a 4-0 victory over Fayetteville at Harmon Stadium. The match was originally scheduled for April 13, but severe weather in Northwest Arkansas forced the match to be postponed. Coming into the match, Fayetteville was one of the hottest teams in the 7A-West, winning four straight league matches. The win keeps the Lady Tigers a game ahead of Rogers in the standings, while Fayetteville fell back into a tie with Springdale Har-Ber in third. "This was a big hurdle," Bentonville coach Kris Henry said. "It's good to get that result going into Friday against Rogers." Taylor Ann Reash scored in the 34th and 46th minutes to pace Bentonville, with Anna Passmore assisting on the second goal. Henry said the two-score performance can build Reash's confidence as Bentonville begins to prepare for postseason play. "She's been frustrated lately," Henry said. "She's had a lot of good opportunities, but she's not been able to finish. Her two goals tonight can go a long way for her confidence." Sydney Suggs (18) and Sara Roberts (47) also scored for the Lady Tigers (14-2-1, 9-1 7A-West). "I'm happy with the result," Henry said. "I was happy to get some goals. We've been hard-pressed lately to get more than one or two goals when we get opportunities. Going into the rest of the week, it helps. "Our two scores in the second half came quick. It got really hot, and both teams kind of hit a lull. Getting those two goals quickly let off some pressure." Monday's match is the first of three for the Lady Tigers this week. Bentonville travels to Springdale tonight, before traveling to Rogers on Friday night. "It's a grind," Henry said of the schedule. "That's a lot of minutes for these kids and not a lot of recovery time. We need to have good hydration, eat and hopefully get a lot of sleep." Fayetteville (11-7, 6-4) travels to Rogers Heritage tonight.
