Jordan Gartman's seventh-inning triple drove in Amy Springer with the winning run as Bentonville slipped past Greenwood in a nonconference game Tuesday at the Tiger Athletic Complex.

Morgan Nelson belted a leadoff single to start the seventh and was replaced by Springer as a pinch-hitter. Gartman then delivered her shot over the centerfielder's head and to the fence, allowing Springer to score.

The win was the 300th of Bentonville coach Kent Early's career, but it didn't come easy. Greenwood scored two runs in the sixth to tie the game, then head runners at the corners with one out in the seventh.

Bentonville (27-1) provided the defense and threw two runners out at the plate. Maddy Prough threw home to get the second out, then the Lady Tigers ended the inning with another out at the plate after catching a Greenwood runner in a rundown.

Prough (20-1) was not at her best, allowing four runs on eight hits. The senior right-hander struck out eight, with her fourth one coming to start the third and giving her 200 for the season.

Bentonville now heads to the Class 7A state tournament, where the defending champion is the top seed from the 7A-West and will play at noon Friday against Thursday's winner between Conway and Bentonville West.
