ROGERS — After a sluggish effort in a 28-3 victory over Springdale High the previous week, Bentonville coach Jody Grant was looking for a sharper offensive performance from the Tigers.

Bentonville did just that.

The Tigers seized the momentum with three impressive first-half scoring drives for a 21-3 halftime lead and they then used a pair of Rogers turnovers in the second half to pull away for a 55-3 win over the Mounties. Bentonville has won the last nine meetings between the two schools.

Bentonville quarterback Kasey Ford was 10 of 10 passing for 127 yards in the first half and the Tigers completed all 11 passing attempts the first 24 minutes while taking a 18-point lead. Bentonville finished the game with 460 yards of total offense.

“The way we had been playing lately, it was huge for us to get some momentum early,” Grant said. “We need to have these kids playing with confidence as we get ready to go down the stretch.”

Play of the Week: Leading 7-3 and with a first down at midfield, Ford tossed a lateral to to Nate Lyons and Lyons then found a wide open Dax Hale for a 45-yard gain down to the Rogers 5. Two plays later, Ford threw a 5 yard touchdown pass to Kam’ron Mays-Hunt for a 14-3 Tigers lead.

“That was a play we put in a couple of weeks ago,” Grant said. “We had plans early in this game to use it, and it worked out for us.”

Players of the Week: Ford was 15 of 18 passing for 246 yards and one touchdown while Austin Roath rushed 10 times for 53 yards and three touchdowns.

Injury Report: Rogers fullback Christian Brummett suffered a possible concussion and will be evaluated over the weekend. If Brummett is sidelined, he will be the second injured fullback as Sage White has been lost for the year with a foot injury. Rogers entered the game with seven starters sidelined with injuries.

“We are so thin right now,” said Rogers coach Shawn Flannigan.

Notable: Bentonville scored on all eight of its offensive possessions in the game.

Up Next: Rogers host Fayetteville in the home finale while Bentonville (7-1, 4-1) hosts Rogers Heritage.
