Bentonville’s defense had seen enough Friday night.
Springdale High’s offense had driven 55 yards to get a field goal just before halftime, then tried to seize more momentum by recovering an onside kick to start the second half. The Bulldogs might have had more, except a holding penalty negated a touchdown pass on the ensuing play.
That’s when the Tigers slammed the door. Bentonville’s defense allowed only 19 yards after that and also produced points in a 28-3 victory during 7A-West Conference action at Tiger Stadium.

“They have a really special receiver over there in number 3 (Kyler Williams),” Bentonville coach Jody Grant said. “We committed ourselves in the second half to keeping him from hurting us and being able to going to him through the air.”
Williams, who had eight receptions for 111 yards in the first half, was held to three catches for 8 yards over the final 24 minutes. That included two receptions where he caught screen passes and was dropped behind the line of scrimmage.

Bentonville’s defense accounted for three interceptions and came up with points on the last one. Brandon Atchison stepped in front of a Springdale receiver to pick off a Jack Lindsey pass, then pulled away for a 20-yard return for a touchdown.

“More than anything, that’s an outstanding football team,” Springdale coach Zak Clark said. “That’s what they do. They make things tough on you. They make some adjustments, coverage-wise, at the half that made us go somewhere else besides Kyler. It was a great job by them.”

Play of the game: Atchison’s interception gave Bentonville the breathing room it needed and helped the Tigers pull away for the victory.

Player of the game: Sophomore receiver Kam’Ron Mays-Hunt had his best game of the season with eight receptions for 74 yards and two touchdowns. He caught a 9-yard TD pass from Kasey Ford in the first quarter, then added a 13-yard touchdown catch from Ford in the fourth quarter.
Notable: The win is Bentonville’s ninth straight over Springdale, whose last win came in 2006. … Bentonville tailback Jacob Clark has 20 carries for 121 yards, the first time broke the 100-yard rushing mark since the Tigers’ win over Valor Christian in Week 2. … Chase Hunter took over the punting duties and dropped two of his three attempts inside the Springdale 20. … Springdale sophomore linebacker Dylan Sisemore had two quarterback sacks. … Jayden Minchew recovered the onside kick for Springdale to start the second half and also had a fumble recovery.
